Dispatch Growth (Member Services)

 

Presently, there has been a plan to have a New System - sometimes called an APP in Error. It is a WEB Portal that is continuing to grow. There are some good features.  

 

Developing from a Dispatch System to a true Members' Services Application will take some work, noting that the Data of the web-based system will not be a waste of efforts, it will be part of a good foundation. 

 

The web-based portal will simply be updated to ensure the web application's security. Presently, the security is certainly in the right direction with Encryption using HTTP, Secure Authentication or Authorization with a Multi-Factor Authenticator, or what some will call 2FA (Two Factor authentication). 

 

We will ensure that:  

- Secure Coding Practices are maintained - oversight will be by an IBEW Staff Member(s) 

- Vulnerability Management testing will be performed by roving third parties

- Data Backup and Recovery will be maintained by an IBEW Staff Member(s) 

- Secure Data Storage will have strict access controls, and proper handling of encryption keys will be managed and maintained by an IBEW Staff Member(s)

- Security Auditing and Monitoring will be performed by an IBEW Staff Member(s) and by roving third parties.

- Regular Software Updates, including operating systems, web servers, etc., will be maintained, monitored, and updated  by an IBEW Staff Member(s)

 

Proposed Future Developments 

- Updates to the existing Foundation of a Web Portal 

        - Contact information Updates 

        - Preferred Name Utilization in Contact information

        - Pronoun utilization  

        - Authorization/Deauthorization of information to be provided to another party

        - Ability to update certificates of qualifications and their expiry dates

        - Ability to report a change in dispatch Status 24/7 online, complete with appropriate authenticator questions to confirm the status change.  

                        - Such as reporting: 

                        Out of Work (laid off and ready to go on the out-of-work list to bid for work at a new job location)

                        Attending Trade School and returning from trade school

        - Ability to confirm a call without calling into dispatch

        - Ability to update your IBEW Photo ID that will change from Card Base to Electronic Base 

        - IBEW Photo ID will graduate in two streams 

                    - Physical card with RFID Technology that will allow you access to your training areas in each building when your registration for training has been authenticated; It will also sign you into a Unit Meeting or specially called Meeting and or any IBEW Events that you have successfully registered for. It will also validate your union status - member in good standing - thus your Union dues are paid up to date and are verifiable by your site Union Steward(s) and Business Representatives alike.

                    - Digital Wallet Card with Apple Wallet and Google Wallet (formerly Google Pay)   

 

- These updates will also expand to an APP that will be downloadable from the App Store-Apple and Android Apps on Google Play 

 

Apps will be developed specifically to support Apprentices  and Journey Persons based on their specific needs and interactions with the union to reduce the sea of superfluous information   

 

Dispatch changes to form symmetry will all other IBEW locals in Ontario, as well as Book 2 for Out of Town working options.
