Electrical Training Alliance and the JAC (Joint Apprenticeship Council) is a work in progress - reviewing with members' ideas at hand and choosing the simple updates and looking at the difficult ones or what may be considered a pipe dream for the short term, as everything may be achieved together. I look forward to providing updates on this page.
Noting that the Electrical Training Alliance and the Joint Apprenticeship Council are two separate mechanisms to support apprentices throughout their career path, both are valued and needed.
The Electrical Alliance is a Contractor Initiative that is funded by the contractors through GTECA (Greater Toronto Electrical Contractors Association). The IBEW engages in the E
Electrical Alliance via JAC Representatives of the IBEW Local 353 as per the Principal Agreement Section 1801 in the Blue Pages, as well as per the Appendices (White Pages). Noting that our local is the only local union to have such an Association for the support of our Apprentices.
Other locals utilize the JAC or JATC (Joint Apprenticeship Training Council) only to support Apprentices, which has a history of working well within the IBEW.
With the Electrical Alliance & JAC system in place, there is some overlap within our 353 Local; this is an important thing, as there are other opinions to help guide apprentices towards success for all parties involved.
We will be reviewing both streams of supporting apprentices to find a path to ensure that an apprentice is developed into an IBEW 353 Member that are Professional, Skilled, and well-rounded individual(s) with the mechanical aptitudes and characteristics to meet the physical demands, as well as the mental perseverance to perform well in our trade and all it demands.
